Background of the Study
Infectious diseases are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in Nigeria, with diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS presenting significant challenges to public health. Genomic research on infectious diseases plays a vital role in understanding the pathogens responsible, their genetic makeup, and how they evolve and adapt to treatments. Statement of the Problem
The growing volume of genomic data generated in infectious disease research poses challenges for data management, storage, and analysis. Many institutions, particularly in developing countries like Nigeria, lack the infrastructure and systems necessary to manage and analyze these large datasets effectively. The absence of a centralized system for genomic data management hampers collaboration, slows down research progress, and limits the potential impact of genomic discoveries on public health. Bayero University, Kano State, can play a crucial role in addressing this problem by developing a comprehensive genomic data management system that meets the needs of infectious disease researchers in Nigeria.
